This is just to follow up on a few questions about the plastic sheet material that I demonstrated at last Saturday's meeting, It is available under the heading "Color coded plastic shim stock" on the McMaster website. It's available in a variety of sizes and thicknesses. The 5" x 20" size is very convenient to cut into thinner strips, and depending upon the thickness, is $3 to $6 per sheet. The stated specification of thickness accuracy is ±0.0002" on shims up to 0.005" thick.

I sometimes shop at Enco online, which recently got bought out by MSC. MSC also carries the plastic shim stock. They rate their tolerance at +/- 10%. The MSC price is cheaper than McMaster by the square inch, but for the 5" x 20" size MSC only sells them five pieces at a time. That's a lot of stock if you just use it for touching off! But the 10" x 20" size they sell by the piece like McMaster does. Given the fact that at both companies the .0005" shim stock is silver and the .001" is amber, I assume they're both the same exact stuff. MSC ships free on orders over $49. Butch
